We maintain a broadly positive outlook for the South Korean consumer both in the near term and over the long horizon. Increasing wages and buoyant retail sales growth provide ample cause for optimism in the country's domestic demand growth over the coming quarters. While long-term growth opportunities in the South Korean consumer market do not compare as favourably to those available in higher-growth regional economies such as India, Indonesia and China, the country's healthy economic growth and increasing disposable incomes should continue to serve up reasonably attractive opportunities for consumer goods manufacturers.
