Whereas beer very much plays second fiddle to Diageo's main premium spirits business internationally, the reverse is true in Africa. In the six months to December 2010, between lager and Guinness, beer sales accounted for 69% of Diageo's business in Africa, compared to 25% from spirits, making the continent unique because generally outside of Ireland and the UK, Diageo's business is far more about spirits.
