Premiumisation Key To Growth In Gulf's Wealthiest Consumer Market

We believe Qatar could potentially challenge the UAE, specifically Dubai, as the Gulf region's most premiumised consumer sector over the next few years. With a very strong hydrocarbon sector, Qatar is extremely rich on a per capita basis at nearly US$85,000 in 2010. There is already plenty of luxury goods retail space that caters easily to the well engrained disposition among consumers towards expensive brands. Qatar has appeared to be a beacon of calm as unrest has swept across much of the Middle East and North Africa in 2011, with the wealthy Gulf region not being spared.
