Woolworths Taking Positive Steps Towards Securing Its Domestic Foothold

Expansion of its private label offerings was highlighted as one of the key tenets of its near-term growth strategy, and this should help provide some cushion against the near-term slowdown in domestic demand. With longer-term plans of expanding its portfolio of higher-value offerings, reviewing its underperforming businesses and strengthening its online presence, we believe Woolworths is taking positive steps towards strengthening its market position against competitor Wesfarmers. However, given that these plans are still at their initial stages, we will continue to closely monitor the progress of Woolworths' proposed initiatives and assess the impact of these initiatives on its earnings prospects.
