Growing Demand For Beer Imports Prompts Mahou San-Miguel To Sign Deal With Modelo
December 2011 | Company News AlertBeers from Spain's Mahou San-Miguel are set to become available in Mexico after the firm signed a distribution deal with its Mexican counterpart Grupo Modelo. The deal will see Modelo distribute the firm's products to both retailers and the bar/restaurant sector, with Mahou highlighting the growing niche demand for imported beers. Beer sales in Mexico have been hit in recent years by economic headwinds, but the import sector has been relatively immune, almost doubling in size between 2002 and 2010 (albeit from a low base). Import sales stood at 87mn litres in 2002 and grew to 162mn litres in 2010.
