BMI View : The Australian food and grocery manufacturing industry is overwhelmed by the pressures of a strong Australian dollar, retail price wars, private label growth and higher operating costs. Although we do not expect the Australian dollar to remain a persistent threat to domestic food and grocery manufacturers, the other pressures are likely to persist through the near-to-medium term. Within the agribusiness sector, the dairy sector will continue to bear the brunt of these pressures, and we expect consolidation in the sector to gather greater force going forward.
