South East Asia: Where The Opportunities Lie

Japanese brewers' eagerness to expand overseas as they seek to hedge against their weakening domestic prospects is a familiar story to us. However, notably, Japanese brewers such as Asahi and Kirin are particularly keen on expanding their footprint in the South East Asian region. It is not difficult to understand why, as the region boasts very exciting growth prospects in beer. Favourable demographics are a major positive underpinning the region's appeal, and relative sector immaturity means that regional brewers are generally operating on higher operating margins. The higher margin environment is certainly a major attraction for the Japanese brewers.
