In what could be a worrying development for the entire private label sector, US private label specialist TreeHouse Foods has been forced to issue a profit warning after registering a drop in volumes during the fourth quarter of 2011. The firm reported that its volumes in December fell by 8% and it now expects its annual earnings per share to come in between US$2.70 and US$2.73, down from previous guidance of US$2.90 to US$3.00.
