GSK Carving Out A Growing Presence In Consumer Goods And EMs

GSK's Horlicks brand, which is a malted milk beverage, is the best-selling packaged beverage (with the exception of bottled water) in India, notably selling twice as much as PepsiCo's eponymous carbonated beverage, according to Bloomberg. Faced with a deteriorating macroeconomic climate in Europe and the US, expansion in the emerging markets (EMs) and consumer goods sectors is likely to remain a strategic priority for GSK as it seeks to replicate its success in India elsewhere in the developing world. With its consumer products portfolio offering greater stability in earnings, GSK should look forward to creating a better-rounded portfolio going forward.
