Mixed Year For Greek Retailers

For Dia, the Greek discount chain owned by French retail giant Carrefour, 2005 was a good year, as the company reported a net profit of EUR58.8mn (US$73mn). Turnover for the year was up to EUR354.7mn (US$440.8mn) against EUR303.2mn (US$376.5mn) in 2004. The company is looking to expand its store network to 459 stores by 2008 from the 401 it should have by the end of 2006. The aim for 2006 is to increase turnover to EUR404mn (US$485.5mn), which looks achievable, as sales for Maxi Dia were up by 40% in Q106. BMI is forecasting sales growth of 34.5% in Greece's
