Lebanese Crisis Deepens With Increased Food Shortages
August 2006 | Industry NewsAs the conflict in Lebanon rages on, those citizens left in the country are facing an increasingly dire situation, with the Lebanese authorities appealing to the international community for medicine and food. One month into the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, most food production in the country has come to a grinding halt. Since the conflict began, around 85% of all factories have been forced to close, while 35 factories have been destroyed by the Israeli bombing campaign. Even when food is still being produced, transportation has become a major problem, with over 60 bridges out of commission and roads marred by craters.
