Founded as a cloth and material store in 1905 in Torreon, Coahuila, Soriana has built up an impressive network of 204 stores across 85 cities and 24 states in Mexico. It is now the second largest mass grocery retailer (MGR) in the country, with over 45,000 employees. It continues to be a wholly Mexican-owned and controlled company. In 1987 it began to be quoted on the Mexican Stock Exchange, as part of its strategy of obtaining capital for long-term growth.
