Discounters Make a Move on Latvian Food Retail
September 2006 | Company News AlertIf local press reports in Lithuania and Latvia are correct, German discounter Lidl has called an end to plans to expand in the Baltics. Given Lidl's aggressive expansion in other Central and Eastern European markets, the move appears to suggest that the discount model may have limited appeal in the small but fast-growing mass grocery retail (MGR) markets of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
