Life Not So Sweet For Chocolate Giants In The UK

Three firms, Cadbury's, Masterfoods (Mars) and Nestlé, control more than 75% of the UK chocolate market. But the market has thrown up a lot of challenges in recent months. A hot summer, a salmonella scare, a gathering anti 'junk food' push by regulators and some botched attempts to leverage and re-invigorate flagship brands has two of the UK's leading chocolate makers hoping that Christmas sales will give them a much-needed end-of-year sales boost. Cadbury's saw Q3 sales slip 5% year-on-year (y-o-y), with UK chocolate sales lagging. Meanwhile, Nestlé continues to battle declining market share and a series of disappointing product
