Food Safety Scandal Haunts Hungary's Food Industry
January 2007 | Industry NewsScandal and consumer outrage have erupted in Hungary's food and drink industry, following the revelation that up to one-third of the food sold in the country may be illegal. Before the holidays, Hungary's public health authorities began to investigate food warehouses, which led to the discovery and confiscation of more than 100 tonnes of expired food items. Attila Borodi, chairman of the country's association of food processors, has called this the 'tip of the iceberg' in the Budapest Business Journal.
