Tengelmann Announces Bulgarian Entry Plans

February 2007 | Company News Alert

German discounter Tengelmann has announced that it will open its Plus chain of stores in Bulgaria in the first quarter of 2008, following an earlier delay. Although the company would not reveal the location of the outlets or the size of the investment, company spokesperson René Beutner did say: 'Bulgaria is a growing and interesting market for us, a place which responds to our philosophy.' In February 2006 Tengelmann had said that it planned to invest more than US$175mn on around 20 Bulgarian stores by the end of 2007, although the date has now been re-thought.
