Bird Flu Scare Results In A Series Of Export Bans
February 2007 | Industry NewsIn late January, the Hungarian Agricultural Ministry confined that bird flu had returned to the country, following the detection of the H5N1 virus in a flock of geese. The virus first appeared in Hungary last February in wild geese, swans and domestic poultry, with this outbreak the first to be reported in the EU this year. Although the authorities were quick to take action, slaughtering the flock and establishing a safety zone, this did not stop Croatia from imposing an indefinite halt to Hungarian poultry exports.
