Speculation concerning a possible merger between the world's two largest brewers - Belgium's InBev and US giant Anheuser-Busch (AB) - has been rife after members of InBev's board reportedly suggested that talks were underway. Such a partnership would give AB, the world's leading brewer in value sales terms, and InBev, the world's leading brewer in volume sales terms, control of one-quarter of the immense global beer market. This mouth-watering prospect sent shares in both firms rocketing, while no doubt leaving global rivals contemplating their next move.
