Increasing Urbanisation Undermines Agricultural Development
May 2007 | Industry NewsMost of the countries in the Middle East have overwhelmingly urban populations, and with increasing urbanisation, the rural populations in these countries will continue to shrink. Inevitably, this will have a major impact on the agricultural industry, and in turn, food and drink processors. As these countries continue to develop, new generations of would-be farmers will migrate to cities in search of greater opportunities, a trend which has long since begun. Such a trend could potentially have a major detrimental impact on the already negative food and drink trade balances that have been witnessed in these countries for years.
