JBS Snares Swift To Create LatAm Meat Giant

Brazilian meat processor J&F Participações - the controlling shareholder in leading Latin American beef exporter JBS - is to acquire US beef and pork processor Swift & Co in a deal worth US$1.4bn. The deal represents something of a triumph for the Latin American company which has secured considerable success domestically while failing to capitalise on export opportunities to the extent that it would have liked.
