Government Invests Heavily In Sugar Production
June 2007 | Industry NewsSudanese sugar company Kenana has announced a major increase in its sugar production, as it looks to produce 10mn tonnes of sugar annually, up from its current production of 850,000 tonnes a year. Given its vast size, some government officials believe that Sudan could eventually produce twice that amount. As it benefits from oil-induced economic growth, Sudan is looking to reform its agricultural economy, and has seen the global rise in demand for sugar as a key commodity around which to structure this reform.
