Liberalism Versus Quality Of Life In Battle Over Alcohol Restrictions
July 2007 | Industry NewsWhile the Estonian government's decision in early June to raise alcohol excise taxes to 20% beginning next year may be grudgingly accepted by Estonian consumers as a fait accompli and a necessary part of EU membership, an ongoing battle over restrictions on when alcohol may be sold is provoking a wider debate over both the country's liberal business regime and quality of life issues. A number of bills aimed at restricting alcohol sales have also pitted county and municipal authorities against the central government over the issue of who has the authority to regulate
