Government Pushes Forward With Ambitious Project
November 2007 | Project NewsThe Turkish government is continuing to push forward with its ambitious Southeast Anatolia Project (GAP) in an effort to boost the region's economic development and significantly increase agricultural output. The GAP project was initially launched 25 years ago and US$35bn has been invested in hydro-electric plants and irrigation systems. The aim is the overall socioeconomic developed of the impoverish south-eastern region of Turkey, covering approximately 10% of the country, including two major rivers, the Euphrates and the Tigris.
