Agrana Sugar Refinery Closes In Response To EU Reforms
November 2007 | Industry NewsMagyar Cukor, owned by Agrana, an Austrian-based sugar, fruit and starch producer, has announced that it will close its sugar refinery in Petohaza, Hungary. The company plans on returning one-third of its sugar quota as a part of an EU programme that incentivises sugar producers to cut their production and reduce the overall capacity of the sector. Magyar Cukor has said that it will continue production at its refinery in Kaposvar, following the decision by the Hungarian government to cut the country's sugar output by around 50%.
