Mercator Makes Omega Acquisition
February 2008 | Company News AlertSlovenia's leading mass grocery retail (MGR) operator Mercator has announced a deal to take over the retail unit of Bosnia's Omega. According to the terms of the agreement, Mercator will take over all of Omega's retail units, pending approval from the Bosnian competition commission. Currently Omega runs five retail stores in Bosnia, with another two under construction. Such an acquisition is a part of Mercator's stated strategy of becoming the leading retailer in the Balkan region. The company is looking to raise its market share in the countries in which it is present and is aiming for a market share
