Major Sugar Refinery Starts Production

Production in Syria's largest sugar refinery has now begun, with an output of 1,000 tonnes a day, and plans to triple output within three months. The al-Wataniyah refinery, located in the Homs region, is the result of a joint venture between Syrian businessman Najib Assaf, Brazilian company Crystalsev and America agri-business conglomerate Cargill. The raw sugar used as an input will be supplied from Brazil by Cargill.
