Godrej Sees Future In Rural Retailing

Indian major Godrej Food and Beverages has entered into talks with local business group Future Group about a possible joint venture into rural retailing. Godrej is reportedly considering spinning off its Godrej Aadhar rural retail unit and allowing Future to pick up a controlling stake in the company. With Indian cities not yet anywhere near saturation point, few retailers have looked elsewhere for opportunities and yet Future's early foray into this sector shows how seriously it is taking the preservation of its market
