EABL Boosts Profits

East Africa Breweries (EABL) has reported a 23% leap in first half profits on the back of impressive sales increases. Net income was up to KES6.5bn (US$95.6mn) in the six months ending December 31, up from KES5.3bn in the same period the year earlier, while sales rose to KES16.1bn (US$248.2mn) from KES12.6bn. Majority owned by global drinks giant Diageo, the group consists of Kenya Breweries, Uganda Breweries, International Distillers Uganda, East African Maltings, Central Glass Industries and UDV Kenya, while it also has a stake in Tanzania Breweries.
