If The Cap Fits… UAE Tackles Inflation
March 2008 | Industry NewsThe government of the UAE is considering giving its citizens discounts on basic food products in a controversial move to combat the food price inflation which has been plaguing the country in recent months. Under the proposed scheme, UAE nationals will be able to purchase rice, bread, tea, sugar, milk, butter and other basic food items at cost, by presenting an identification card which they can use in co-operative supermarkets that are generally owned by nationals and provide lower prices on basic goods. The retailer Union Co-Operative Society then agreed to fix the retail price of 16 basic goods at
