Mozzarella Sales Fall After Safety Fear
March 2008 | Industry NewsItaly's buffalo mozzarella producers look likely to experience a massive drop in sales after the milk from 66 buffalo herds was found to contain unsafe levels of the cancer-causing substance dioxin. The finding, announced by the country's health ministry, has already led to mozzarella imports being banned in Japan and South Korea, and the EU has now asked Italy for safety assurances.
