Strike Paralyses Agricultural Exports
March 2008 | Industry NewsAngry farmers in Argentina have paralysed agricultural exports from the country's major ports through a combination of strikes and roadblocks. Shipments from the main port of Rosario are said to be at less than 1% of their normal level because of the action, and large cargo ships are having to divert to ports in Brazil and Uruguay. The situation has now ballooned into a major crisis for President Cristina Fernandez and several companies including Bunge, the world's largest oilseed processor, have had to declare force majeure on Argentine soybean shipments.
