Agriculture Entering A Crisis Period?
April 2008 | Industry NewsAccording to a report produced by the Turkish Association of Agriculturalists, the country's agricultural sector is entering a crisis period. The findings of the report state that the Turkish agricultural sector experienced a contraction of 7.3% in production in 2007. Although a part of this decline can be attributed to last year's drought, the report placed the majority of the blame on the government's negative agricultural policies. In fact, it appears that a number of agricultural producers are looking abroad for investment opportunities, citing bureaucratic obstacles, climate change and high production costs as the main driving factors.
