Farmers Continue To Struggle With EU Regulations
April 2008 | Industry NewsDespite being a major beneficiary of EU Rural Development Funding programmes, Poland's many small farmers are continuing to struggle. With a history of smallhold farming, Poland resisted collectivisation even under Communist rule, meaning that today the country is home to 1.5mn small farms, the largest number of any EU member states. These farms are also considerably smaller than the majority of their EU counterparts, averaging 17 acres, compared to an average size of 59 acres for farms in Spain, France and Germany.
