SABMiller Loses Stranglehold On Colombia
April 2008 | Company News AlertInternational brewer SABMiller has reported that beer volumes in Colombia increased by 4% in the 12 months to March 31 2008. This compares unfavourably with growth of 11% in the year prior and the firm has attributed this slower growth to weaker economic conditions in the country. Although high interest rates have certainly put pressure on consumers, Colombia's annual GDP growth was actually higher in 2007 than in 2006, suggesting that economic factors are unlikely to be the only reason for the firm's poorer performance.
