Biofuel Crop Exports Surge

According to statistics released by the Czech Agricultural Association, Czech rapeseed exports grew by over sevenfold in 2007, from CZK670mn to CZK5bn, reflecting the surging demand for biofuels, as adding rapeseed methylester to diesel is more common in other countries than in the Czech Republic. Grain exports were also on the rise, growing by 40% year-on-year to CZK4.7bn. These two export rises helped contribute to a 10% drop in the country's agricultural product trade deficit.
