San Miguel Targets Tourist Spending
June 2008 | Company News AlertPhilippine food and beverage giant San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has confirmed that it is considering brewing and liquor manufacturing investments in Laos and Myanmar, to complement its September 2007 plan to invest US$16mn in its first Cambodian brewery. SMC is keen to exploit the immense short-term opportunity represented by tourism spending in these markets before turning its attention to the increasing affluence of local consumers on the back of tourism-led economic growth.
