Heineken Contemplates Challenging Balancing Act
June 2008 | Company News AlertDutch brewing giant Heineken has found itself at the centre of a dispute between new Indian joint venture partner United Breweries (UB) and long-standing regional partner Asia Pacific Breweries (APB). Heineken expanded its footprint in India via the US$7.8bn takeover of UK major Scottish & Newcastle (S&N), landing S&N's 37.5% UB stake in the subsequent asset split with takeover partner Carlsberg. Heineken has now been forced to address a potential conflict of interests with APB's emerging Indian operations, with no obvious resolution
