Spar Gets Green Light For Plus Acquisition

Austrian retailer Spar (Austria) has received clearance from the European Commission for its proposed acquisition of the Hungarian network of Plus discount stores from Germany's Tengelmann. The commission ruled that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area, as the company would continue to face numerous strong and effective competitors in food retail, both at the national and local levels.
