Co-operative Group Agrees Somerfield Takeover
July 2008 | Company News AlertThe Co-operative Group (Co-op), the self-styled ethical retailer that owns around 2,200 food outlets in the UK, has agreed to buy rival retailer Somerfield for GBP1.57bn (US$3.2bn). The enlarged group will be the fifth largest retailer in the UK by sales and the largest in terms of store numbers, with a very strong presence in the convenience sector.
