Government Considering More Subsidies

The Kuwaiti government is considering increasing subsidies on basic foods as its latest tactic in the battle against inflation. Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have been in talks with the government-funded retail group Union of Co-operative Societies (UCS) to discuss which foods can be sold at reduced prices, with items such as frozen chicken, olive oil, soap and juice to the food card scheme. With inflation rising steadily, the Kuwaiti government is under growing pressure to take actions that will ease the impact on consumers.
