SABMiller Completes Sarmat Acquisition

Anglo-South African brewer SABMiller has announced that it has completed its acquisition of Ukrainian brewer CJSC Sarmat. SABMiller reached an agreement to purchase 99.84% of the Donestsk-based brewer in May 2008 and had been waiting for approval from the country's competition authorities. Although the purchase price was not disclosed, the value of Sarmat's gross assets have been estimated at US$130mn. The deal marks SABMiller's entry into the Ukrainian beer market, allowing it to establish a substantial foothold as a part of its broader expansion strategy in the region.
