US Firm Invests In Local Brewery

A recently established Ethiopian-U.S. investment group has announced its plans to build a US$37mn brewery at Maichew, in the northern Tigray region. The brewery will have the capacity to produce 30mn litres of 'Raya Beer' annually and should be operational by the end of 2010. The site benefits from its proximity to a suitable source of spring water and also has an adjacent 15ha of land, which will be used to grow brewing barely.
