Competition Watchdog Blocks Mercator Share Sale

The sale of a 23% share in Mercator, Slovenia's leading mass grocery retail (MGR) operator, has been blocked by the country's competition authority. In June of this year, Slovenian Infond Holding, which holds a 25% stake in the retailer, reached an agreement with Austria's Raishop Holding, a subsidiary of Raiffeisen Investment, to sell 23% of its shares for EUR260mn (US$409.4mn) provided the deal was approved by Slovenia's Competition Protection Office.
