Wal-Mart And Carrefour Look To Snap Up Lenta
August 2008 | Industry NewsWith leading Russian retailer Lenta soon to hold a sale tender, it appears that both America's Wal-Mart and France's Carrefour have finally found a means of gaining a foothold in Russia's booming mass grocery retail (MGR) sector. Lenta, the St Petersburg-based hypermarket chain is selling an 89% stake in the company, with the remaining 11% held by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to reports in the local press, Wal-Mart and Carrefour plan to bid for Lenta together with investment fund TPG Capital.
