Profits Up But Sales Stagnant At Metro and Loblaw

Canadian retailers Metro and Loblaw have reported weak sales but rising profits in their most recent financial periods. Montreal-based Metro reported a 3.7% increase in profits in the three months to July 5, but this came on the back of an increase in revenues of less than 1%. Meanwhile, Toronto-based Loblaw reported that its second-quarter net earnings were up by 17.6% but that sales for the period inched up by only 1.5% and that same-store sales increased by less than
