On August 12 2008, around 400 farmers demonstrated outside Diageo's flagship Guinness brewery in Dublin over the low the prices that they are paid for barley. The farmers claim that Diageo is exploiting its dominant position in the country's brewing sector and keeping prices low, while the global price for malted barley is rising.
