Government Lifts Monopoly On Alcoholic Drinks Industry
August 2008 | Industry NewsThe Algerian government has passed a major reform of the country's alcoholic drinks industry, lifting the state monopoly on the sale of alcohol. According to a press release by the finance ministry, the decision was made due to the difficulties the state alcohol service had encountered in meeting the needs of the country's operators. Under the new law, operators no longer have to go through the state for the import, export, production and sale of alcohol in the internal market. This will come as welcome news for those operating in Algeria's alcoholic drinks industry, as there had been many complaints
