Brewers Turn To Sorghum For Local Beer Production
August 2008 | Industry NewsWhile barely has traditionally been the main crop used to brew beer, in recent years a new trend has emerged for African beer - the use of sorghum as an alternative ingredient. The main driving force behind this change has been the continent's main brewers - Diageo-owned Guinness, Dutch brewer Heineken, and Anglo-South African SABMiller. While some of these projects were started as a corporate social responsibility initiative, they have now evolved into profitable businesses in their own right.
