Comerci Seeks Bankruptancy Protection

Mexico's third largest food retailer Commercial Mexicana (Comerci) has sought bankruptcy protection after the plunging value of the Mexican peso made it impossible for the firm to service its dollar-denominated debts. The development clearly puts the firm's future viability as an independent concern in question. However, the business could eventually become a takeover target for a firm wishing to gain a foothold in the high-growth Mexican market.
