D&S Plans Market Entry With Discount Format

Chilean supermarket operator Distribución y Servicio (D&S) has announced that it is planning to open three new outlets in Peru in 2009. The stores will mark the firm's first foray outside of Chile and will be located in the Peruvian capital of Lima. Up until now D&S has been able to piggy back on Chile's high economic growth and steady increase in consumer spending, but with the firm's domestic market showing signs of maturity, D&S is looking to increase its exposure to markets where the retail sector is less
